SmartFACT Data
When reviewed reference values need to be maintained by a team, SmartFACT Data, including ConfigSheets, provides maintained tables and agreed receiving workflows. It is in early access.
FREE TEXT, HEX AND BYTE EDITOR
Paste text or bytes, see their representations, and edit with the original bytes in view. Reveal hidden characters, check encodings and download exactly the bytes you choose.
Free to use. No account, email address or trial. Your work stays in your browser.
Hexadecimal bytes
41 09 C3 A9
Illustrative bytes: a letter, a tab and a two-byte UTF-8 character. Views preserve the byte buffer.
For developers, integrators and teams investigating scanner text, file encodings, hidden separators and values that look identical but compare differently.
A USEFUL STARTING POINT
A trailing tab, a non-breaking space or a different encoding can turn an apparently identical value into a mismatch. OctetBench keeps the bytes visible while you inspect their text, edit a byte or compare another sequence. Changing a view leaves the original bytes intact.
FROM SAMPLE TO ANSWER
Paste text or choose hex, Base64, Base64url, binary or decimal input. Apply valid input to the byte buffer, or explicitly open a local file.
Choose a text encoding, reveal hidden characters, select a byte and replace it, or read a number with explicit byte order.
Compare another hex sequence, copy a representation or download the raw bytes. Downloads include the complete buffer.
WHAT IT DOES
UTF-8, ASCII and both UTF-16 byte orders, with explicit failure when the bytes do not form valid text.
Tabs, carriage returns, line feeds, non-breaking spaces and other supported controls appear with their code point and byte offset.
Apply a whole input or replace one byte. Invalid input keeps the current bytes, and 20 undo steps remain in memory.
Hex, Base64, Base64url, binary, decimal, escaped text and C#/JavaScript byte-array output.
See every difference in the counts and the first 100 differing positions, including missing bytes.
Read signed and unsigned 8/16/32-bit values at a selected offset with explicit little- or big-endian byte order.
Work stays in memory while the tab is open. It is not saved automatically or uploaded. Refreshing or closing the page discards it. Copying writes to your clipboard and downloading creates a local file; those copies can outlive the tab.
WHEN CHECKS REPEAT
These SmartFACT services handle work that repeats across a team or on each job. The workbench remains free and independent.
When reviewed reference values need to be maintained by a team, SmartFACT Data, including ConfigSheets, provides maintained tables and agreed receiving workflows. It is in early access.
When label requirements must be checked on every job, LabelRules turns requirements described in plain English into reviewed rules for label selection and value checks. It starts with an invited trial.
BEFORE YOU START
Yes. Every supported check, edit, preview and export is free, without an account, email step or trial.
No. It changes how text is read and written. The buffer changes only when you explicitly apply input, replace a byte, use undo/redo, open a file or clear the bytes.
It is reported as invalid text. The original bytes stay available in hex and other byte representations, and can be downloaded exactly. Replacement characters are not written back.
Yes, when you choose one, up to 64 KiB. Reading is local. The file name is not retained, and downloading creates a new copy rather than overwriting your original.
The buffer is limited to 65,536 bytes (64 KiB), with 20 byte-change undo steps. Byte-grid preview shows 256 bytes, character inspection 128 code points and comparison 100 differing positions; counts and exports use the full buffer. Supported encodings are explicit; invalid text is reported, never repaired. Browser text entry may normalise line endings, so use hex or a local file for exact original bytes. This is a small byte workbench, not a disk editor or file-format parser.
Your input, byte buffer, comparison and undo history stay in this tab’s memory. Files are read only when you choose one, never uploaded, and file names are not kept. Refreshing or closing the tab discards this work. Clipboard copies and downloaded files can outlive the tab. The tool has no analytics or automatic storage. These public pages offer the suite’s optional analytics separately; ordinary requests for pages, scripts and the same-origin suite catalogue may be logged by hosting providers.
